JPOLL - the Japanese Public Opinion Database

Guidelines for JPOLL citation in academic research

JPOLL is intended primarily as a tool for academic researchers. To that end, we encourage the use of the data archived by JPOLL for both publication and presentation at academic meetings, seminars, and colloquia.

JPOLL must be cited as a source in any work (published or presented) in which data maintained by JPOLL is used. In addition to naming JPOLL as the source, the citation should identify the organization which supplied the data to the archive. The following text, typically either footnoted or as an author's note, must be included in any work:

"The data utilized in this (publication/presentation) were originally collected by (name/names of survey sponsors). The data was obtained from the Japan Public Opinion Location Library, JPOLL, Roper Center for Public Opinion Research, University of Connecticut. Neither the original collectors of the data, nor the Roper Center, bear any responsibility for the analyses or interpretations presented here."

Tables and graphs should be credited as follows:

Source: Name of survey sponsor/sponsors, date of survey/suveys, Japan Public Opinion Location Library

Archiving of finished research

The Roper Center also maintains an archive of published or presented research completed using data archived at the center. To this end, we require that two copies of any work either published or presented in a professional setting using JPOLL data be forwarded to:

within two months of publication or presentation.
