The Impact of Redistricting on the Electoral College

 

 

The number of Electoral votes allocated to each state is equivalent to the number of US Representatives in the state plus two (the two US Senators). As redistricting generally occurs after the decennial Census, to assure proper representation for the population in each state, the number of Electors will change.

The Electoral College from the 2000 Presidential Election to the 2004 race are documented in the table below.
