EZproxy and Roper Center services

The Roper Center restricts access to the iPoll Databank and archived datasets based on the IP address of the computer making the request. This is called IP authentication and authorization and is not a problem when the computer is located on the campus/institution having subscribed to Roper Center services. The Roper Center encourages authenticated off-campus access to its services either through a VPN configuration or proxy server authentication which ensures that only subscribing users will have access to the services.

EZproxy is one such web proxy server program extensively used by libraries to provide this authentication. It allows library patrons at home or elsewhere to log in through their library’s EZproxy server and gain access to the iPoll Databank, the Roper Center Archives Catalog and other services.  It works by dynamically altering the URLs within the vendor’s Web pages.

The following is the EZproxy configuration required for successfully accessing Roper Center services:
