Membership Roper Express

The Roper Center introduces RoperExpress, a data access tool for on-demand download of data. Faculty and students at Member institutions now have Unlimited Access to those datasets in the Roper Center collection that are in ASCII or SPSS portable formats.

Multiple data discovery aids throughout the Roper Center's web site, including iPOLL, Survey Spotlights, and Topics at a Glance!. Link to our Dataset Collection, from here, researchers may view descriptive information about the study, and now members can directly download the documentation and data files for those studies. When searching the Catalog, you may limit the selections to include only those studies available in RoperExpress.

Studies accessible for immediate download in RoperExpress are marked with an icon: RoperExpress ICON. This service is available for about 75% of the Center's public opinion studies conducted in the US from 1935 to present, and many recent studies from outside of the US.

Authentication-verification that the user is permitted access-takes place at the point that the researcher selects to download a data file or upon entering the iPOLL database. This takes place in one of two ways:

IP Address Authentication (Available Only for Academic Members)
For those Member institutions that have provided us with IP addresses for their campuses to access iPOLL, IP Authentication will be extended to the RoperExpress service. This service permits researchers from any workstation on a member campus (or proxy account) to access iPOLL and RoperExpress without using a password. Only an email registration is required for this access.

Password Authentication
Some members prefer Password authentication and use this method to access iPOLL and to download files using RoperExpress. Researchers from these member institutions are prompted for their pre-assigned User Name and Password upon entering iPOLL—as is currently the case with iPOLL—at the point of requesting a data file.
